The May 2022 protests began in Khuzestan in early Ordibehesht 1401 after the state removed the subsidized exchange rate for imported wheat and other staples. Bread and food prices jumped. The spark was a price. The street, as in Dey 96, did not stay on prices. Radio Zamaneh's Farsi file called it a rising against inequality. Crowds in Izeh, Dezful, Andimeshk, Shush, Dorud, Yasuj, Shahrekord, Hafshejan, and Farsan chanted marg bar diktator and marg bar Raisi. Catalog titles that say "May 2022 protests" or name Lordegan or Junqan in that setting are gathered here. They are not merged into Woman Life Freedom, which began in September, or into the July 2021 Khuzestan water protests.12
Food prices and spread
From about 15 Ordibehesht, protests that had been scattered in Khuzestan widened. On 22 Ordibehesht they appeared in at least five provinces. Internet was cut or slowed in Khuzestan, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad. Radio Farda, writing from Shahrekord on 25 Ordibehesht, reported mobile and home internet down and security forces in the streets. State media published almost nothing from that night.3
Deaths
Radio Farda's contemporaneous Farsi report3 named five dead from unofficial sources, two of them later acknowledged by official outlets: Omid Soltani in Andimeshk, Hamid Ghasempour and Behrouz Eslami in Farsan, Hadi Saadatpour (Saadat Hadipour) in Hafshejan, and Pish-Ali Ghalebi Hajivand in Dezful. The Saadatpour family was pressured to say their son had been Basij. Radio Zamaneh's named list1 of the same week matches those five. A year later, Radio Farda recorded the anniversary of Jamshid Mokhtari2, shot in Junqan on 27 Ordibehesht. Those names should not be collapsed into one NGO total.
Abadan, late May
Further protests took place in Abadan after the unfinished Metropol building collapsed and killed dozens. Internet slowed. Security units were sent to the site. Those gatherings are part of the same May 2022 sequence in this note, not a separate catalog event.
This archive holds May 2022 protests.
