مهران سماک، جوانی ۲۷ ساله اهل بندرانزلی، در تاریخ ۸ آذر ۱۴۰۱ (۲۹ نوامبر ۲۰۲۲) کشته شد. او به دلیل شادمانی از باخت تیم فوتبال ایران مقابل آمریکا در جام جهانی ۲۰۲۲ و بوق زدن در خودرویش به همراه نامزدش، با شلیک مستقیم نیروهای امنیتی به سرش به شهادت رسید. مرگ او خشم گسترده‌ای را برانگیخت و از او به عنوان «شهید راه آزادی» یاد می‌شود.
