رضا زحمتکش در جریان جنبشهای اعتراضی ایران جان باخت. طبق یک گزارش، او در ۲۰ دی ماه ۱۴۰۴ در محله اشرفی اصفهانی تهران به دست ماموران امنیتی کشته شد. گزارش دیگری حاکی از آن است که او در ۱۹ دی ماه ۱۴۰۴ در کرج و در جریان «انقلاب شیر و خورشید» درگذشت و مزار یادبود او نیز مورد اشاره قرار گرفته است.
